Apex House is part of Grainger’s Seven Sisters Regeneration project located on the corner of Seven Sisters Road and Tottenham High Road in London.163 new residential units across two towers and four townhouses with a mixture of tenures, as well as communal roof terraces, amenity space and a new commercial market space to accommodate the local shops.

Ductal® Archistructure backed brick-faced precast façade panels which were manufactured off-site by Thorp Precast, transported to site and installed via tower crane, providing the aesthetic of traditional handset brick with increased quality and speed.

Description

The site’s small footprint, height, and high-traffic surroundings made it an ideal candidate for a systematized and unitized prefabricated facade system.

Challenge

Unitized brick-clad facade panels and column covers were designed and tested to maintain the brick aesthetic and accelerate the construction schedule. This system, applied as a skin, dramatically accelerates construction and takes advantage of Ductal®’s high compressive and tensile strength to eliminate steel rebar, reduce overall wall thicknesses and add a layer of waterproofing with one prefabricated unit. Additional benefits include accelerated construction schedules and increased quality associated with in-factory production. The end result is a robust and seamless facade system at speed.
