In partnership with Iowa State University and Iowa State DOT, with participation from Wapello and Buchana counties in Iowa, this project was the first to implement overlay application of UHPC using automated paver system brought by Walo from Europe. 

The challenge was to utilize the automation aspect of finishing Ductal® UHPC overlay to a smooth riding surface using a specialized paving system utilized on a major project in Europe. Prior to this, applications utilized small scale vibratory screeds.

The project in partnership with Walo and Ductal® allow both partners to bring UHPC Material and placement/paver finishing know how to provide the first overlay project in the USA using this combination of technologies. The project was completed successfully using staged construction while maintaining traffic over IA-163.

State Route 141 over I95 interchange rehabilitation was commenced in 2019 and expected to be fully completed by Spring 2022. Several crossing structures within this interchange utilized precast panels and required UHPC for all the connections.

A new life for an emblematic structure: The Kanderviadukt was stabilised using a protective coat of Ductal®.
