The Gardiner Expressway structure rehabilitation is part of the City of Toronto’s Strategic Rehabilitation Plan in order to rehabilitate and keep the structure in a safe and operable condition for now and the future.
The challenge was to complete all precast elements near the bridge site, where the Contractor set up a temporary precast facility for all sections of the bridge, where Ductal® Infrastructure was used to connect all precast connections to act as a composite. Schedule was a driving force as each element set in place, needed to gain the required strength of 80MPa before removing subsequent sections. UHPC connections were able to achieve these strengths in 24hrs or less through the entire season (Winter to Summer).
Challenge
Our Ductal® teams have reached a major milestone with our Gardiner Expressway Rehabilitation Project (between Jarvis Street and Cherry Street) in Toronto, Canada! Not only did they respect their timeline despite Covid-19 disruptions, after 109 days and 435 m3 of UHPC since November 25 last year the project is coming to a close, representing one of the most strategic ABC projects in North America.
